PURPLE APPLE-BERRY (Billardiera macrantha) is named for the Native Australian vine known as GARAWANG to the Wurundjeri people. It grows in cool, moist forests of southern New South Wales to Tasmania and is common in the tall open-forests of the Otways and mountain ranges of Victoria. It has slender leaves, greenish-yellow flowers and bright shiny purple fruit which are a delicious and nutritious bush tucker. They are ripe and ready to eat when they fall to the ground and can be added to salads, used in pies and baked breads.
